A Shopify relaunch isn't a pure redesign. It often changes navigation, templates, product data, apps, tracking, and URLs all at once. The biggest risk arises when the new interface is finished but nobody has planned the move of existing signals.

Before the design: secure what exists

Export all reachable URLs, organically important pages, backlinks, product and category data, metadata, structured data, forms, and tracking events. For every relevant old URL, a decision is made: keep unchanged, redirect to an equivalent new URL, or deliberately remove.

URL mapping instead of blanket homepage redirects

Old product, collection, and content pages should point to the most fitting new page in each case. Shopify supports importing and exporting URL redirects. Redirects to the homepage are no substitute for precise mapping.

Test revenue-critical paths

  • Search, filters, variants, and cart
  • Payment methods, shipping zones, taxes, and discount codes
  • Transactional emails, consent, and analytics events
  • Mobile navigation, product pages, and checkout transitions
  • Feeds, ERP, Klaviyo, and other interfaces

Monitor after launch

The first days belong to status codes, 404 errors, redirects, indexing, analytics, and order flows. In Search Console, the sitemap, page indexing, and important URLs are checked. A relaunch can't rule out short-term fluctuations, but preparation limits avoidable errors.
